How much longer will it be before we start seeing affordable performance hybrids?

As I'm sure everyone and their mother is aware that all of the top in hyper cars are used in hybrid drive train systems. So my question to you is how much longer will it be before we see it placed in a affordable sports car. (No I'm not talking to you CRZ get out of here) I personally think a 30000 dollar sports car with a curb recovery system would be pretty awesome. Also getting really good mpg wouldn't hurt either. And they can already make the Prius for $23,000. So what's keeping them from putting the hybrid drive train from the Prius into an FRS? fun handling with 50 miles to the gallon. What's not to like? I mean except for more weight but it would still be pretty awesome!

My guess is that we'll see more all-electric sporty hatchbacks before we see cheap hybrid sports cars. I think in the $30,000 or less range, we're just going to skip over hybrids altogether and go straight to electrics. Battery technology is the only holdup here, and that's being resolved slowly.

Give it 5 years for used i8 prices to become mostly affordable.

Well the i8 already costs about 1/10th of the 918/TheFerrari/P1 trifecta. I'd say within 10 years we'll start seeing performance hybrids within reach of us plebeians.

yup, so soon is the likely answer. Though its still not excited about the idea of a performance hybrid for cheap, i just can't see it going well.
